Melissa Arnette Elliott (born July 1, 1971), rupture known by her phase name Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott, is an American transcription artist, puddler, actress and former member of the R&B band Sista as well as the Swing Mob collective. With record sales of over seven million in the United States, she is the only female person rapper to have six albums certified Pt by the RIAA, including one double platinum for her 2002 album Under Construction. Elliott is known for a series of hits and diverse music TVs, including “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)”, “Hot Boyz”, “Get Ur nut On”, “One Minute Man”, “Work It”, “Pass That Dutch”, and “Lose Control”. In addition, she has worked extensively as a songwriter and producer for other artists, both exclusively and with her producer and puerility friend Timbaland, with whom she received her start? production credit on R&B vocalizer Ginuwine’s 1996′s album Ginuwine the knight bachelor. After further successful work on Aaliyah’s 1996 album One in a Million, she went on to produce music for performers such as Mýa, Christina Aguilera, Ciara, Lil’ Kim, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Keyshia Cole, Lil’ Mo, Trina, Mary J. Blige, Beyoncé, Fantasia, Nicole Wray, Jazmine Sullivan, Blaque, Janet Jackson, Tweet, Magoo, Monica, MC Lyte, and Madonna, among many others. Elliot has put out many hip hop music videos during her life history in the hip hop industry.
For her next outing, Elliott and Timbaland focused on an old school audio, utilizing many old school rap and funk samples, such as Run DMC’s “Peter Piper” and Frankie Smith’s “Double Dutch Bus” (in “Work It” and “Gossip Folks”, respectively). Elliott’s fourth album, 2002′s Under Construction (see 2002 in music), included the aforementioned singles “Work It”, Elliott’s 2nd greatest hit to date, and the successful duet with Ludacris, “Gossip Folks”. As the “Work It” video had done during 2002, “Gossip Folks” became one of the most-played music videos on MTV, MTV2, MTV Jams, and BET in 2003. It received significantly less aid than “Work It” at urban radio, but was embraced by the dance community, as well as the mainstream, due to a Fatboy Slim remix. Although not released as single and with no video, “snatch”, peaked at chip 77 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album is known as the best selling female rap album ever with 2.1 million copies sold in the United States.
